To see these split plums
lined up in rows
turned on their backs
on top of sweet dough
like victims to be offered
in sacrifice to the gods

is to think of
what hangs beneath
a man's member

or the cloven line
at the center
of a woman

but take a piece
in your hand,
lift it to your mouth,
take a good bite

and you will
be lifted up
by the combination
of sweet and tart

that hits you
like the bite
of a good lover.
